Eye-Opening Encounters at Coachella Valley’s Art Festival
During Desert X (Feb. 9 – Apr. 21), the landscape of the Coachella Valley becomes a vast canvas for international contemporary artists. Produced by Desert Biennial, the event inspires “art without constraint,” in which artists engage with the desert environment through striking and often large-scale installations. The inaugural event took place in the spring of 2017 and included such works as a house made of mirrors, reflecting and dissolving into its barren surroundings, and a desert rover (or “shy bot”) programmed to avoid human interaction.
